VICORP Restaurants, Inc., owner of Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurants, kicked off a national campaign on Sunday, Oct. 7 to raise money for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and to promote fire safety awareness by educating local communities on the simple things people can do to keep their families safe from a potential fire.
To further support National Fire Prevention Week and honor those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, participating Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurants will make a donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation for every entrée they sell from 4:00 p.m. to close on Monday, October 8th.
The fire safety awareness campaign will take place during National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7 – 13, 2007. Village Inn will be providing families at participating restaurants nationwide with tips on fire prevention and planning. These tips, developed by the National Fire Protection Association, will remind families of fire safety basics and encourage them to create and practice an escape plan so they are prepared in the event of a fire.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, only one in four families has devised and practiced a plan to escape a fire. Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurants will be distributing fire safety tips that people can accomplish easily at home. Examples of the tips being provided include:
Create a home fire escape plan with your family
Know two ways out of each room in your home
Be sure you have a working smoke alarm on every level
Pick an outside meeting place where everyone can gather after they have escaped to safety
“There is clearly a need to educate the public on fire safety and how families can create an escape plan in the event of a fire,” said Chief Ronald J. Siarnicki, Executive Director, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. “We are thrilled to work with Village Inn and Bakers Square to spread the word about the importance of fire safety so we can decrease the number of fire injuries and fatalities that we see each year. We are also extremely grateful for the generous donation being made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.”
